What Scent Keeps Bed Bugs Away?
Using scents is a good way to keep bugs away from a dwelling. Doing this tends to work for a handful of pests. As a result, some consumers suspect that they can keep bedbugs away from their homes using smells as well. Does this work? Will bedbugs try to avoid certain scents? Although they can help, a lot of people are relying on irrelevant and incorrect information. One way to prevent bedbugs from approaching is by using the pheromones released by baby bedbugs. The baby bedbug releases this scent to keep male bedbugs away. It works exceptionally well so you’re going to find it in many over-the-counter products. However, it is important to understand that this scent doesn’t work for female bedbugs. Is there an alternative? How about essential oils? The US Department of Agriculture studied the effectiveness of essential oils for this purpose. The results of the study were eye-opening. It was found that certain essential oils had an impact on the bedbugs. The most effective included silicone oil, spearmint oil, paraffin oil, and blood orange oil. However, it was found that essential oils weren’t extremely reliable for this purpose. The effectiveness is limited. With that being said, it is best to work with a professional exterminator to find better ways to keep them away.
